Israel has intensified its bombardment of Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah and Hamas fighters in an effort to drive them away from the border and allow displaced Israelis to return home. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed airstrikes near Beirut, with explosions rocking the southern suburbs overnight. IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari stated that 440 Hezbollah militants had been killed since the ground operation began, with more than 2,000 targets destroyed. The IDF also uncovered and dismantled a tunnel in southern Lebanon intended for infiltrating Israeli territory.
Hezbollah claimed to have successfully targeted Israeli soldiers near the Manara settlement, while the IDF made no statement regarding the alleged attack. Israel’s strikes also hit a Palestinian refugee camp and targeted buildings near Lebanon’s only international airport. The ongoing conflict has resulted in the death of at least 1,400 Lebanese, including civilians, medics, and Hezbollah fighters, with 1.2 million people displaced.
Israel’s goal is to push Hezbollah away from their shared border and allow the displaced Israelis to return home. The conflict escalated after Hezbollah began firing rockets into Israel in support of Hamas. The situation remains tense as both sides continue to exchange fire almost daily. Despite the ongoing violence, Israel remains committed to its objective and continues to target key locations associated with Hezbollah and Hamas fighters.
