Woman stabbed at Notting Hill carnival in critical condition | UK news

A 32-year-old woman is fighting for her life in hospital after being stabbed at the Notting Hill carnival, according to the Metropolitan police. The annual event in west London saw a total of three stabbings, with a 29-year-old man also hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries and a 24-year-old man whose condition is yet to be confirmed. In addition, fifteen officers were assaulted, but none suffered serious injuries.

Despite the violent incidents, the police stated that hundreds of thousands of people attended the carnival to enjoy the celebration, and that a minority were responsible for the crimes. A total of 90 arrests were made on Sunday for various offenses, including assault on an emergency worker, possession with intent to supply, sexual offenses, and robbery.

The police also made arrests for drugs possession, theft, possession of nitrous oxide, and public order offenses. Earlier in the day, the police were granted greater search powers after a stabbing incident and the recovery of knives. The force emphasized that a carefully planned policing operation was in place to ensure the safety of attendees, but unfortunately some individuals chose to commit crimes and engage in violence.

The Notting Hill carnival, known for its vibrant music, dancing, and Caribbean culture, attracts people from all over the world. However, the violent incidents serve as a reminder of the challenges faced by law enforcement during large-scale public events.
