Louisiana Tech University has been given a grant to develop a workforce development program in cybersecurity. The Cyber Technology Practitioner Program (CTPP), headed by Warren Ward and the Louisiana Tech Research Institute (LTRI), has partnered with ISACA to offer up to seven cybersecurity certificates to students at no cost. While these certificates do not count for academic credit, they provide students with a competitive edge in the job market.
During the 2024 fall quarter, twenty-five students completed certificates on emerging technology fundamentals through the program. Senior computer information systems student Ashley Brumfield praised the program for enhancing her technical skills and career readiness through industry-recognized certifications and networking opportunities. Students also appreciate the dedication of CTPP faculty, particularly Warren Ward, in helping them exceed their own expectations and open doors in the cybersecurity field.
Warren Ward, the program manager, believes the CTPP is a game changer in providing students with practical skills and knowledge in cybersecurity that were not available when he was a student. The program will continue through the summer quarter of 2025, and interested students can apply through the AcademicWorks link provided. Overall, the CTPP is seen as a valuable opportunity for students to gain practical experience and enhance their career prospects in the cybersecurity industry.
