No. 15 Men’s Basketball narrowly loses to No. 4 Tennessee in close 85-81 match

The University of Missouri men’s basketball team fell to the No. 4/4 Tennessee Volunteers on the road by a score of 85-81. Despite a strong performance from senior Tamar Bates, who scored 22 points in the second half, the Tigers couldn’t overcome Tennessee’s hot shooting, particularly from 3-point range.

Graduate student Tony Perkins contributed 16 points, five assists, and five rebounds, while Josh Gray recorded a game-high 10 rebounds. Mizzou initially took the lead with a 13-2 run led by Perkins, followed by an extended advantage courtesy of Marques Warrick. However, Tennessee rallied in the second half, eventually building a double-digit lead.

The Volunteers shot 50.0 percent from the field, including 10-of-15 from beyond the arc, while also outrebounding the Tigers. Mizzou, on the other hand, shot 41.7 percent from the field and made 12-of-30 3-point attempts. Despite committing only three turnovers and leading in points off turnovers and fastbreak points, the Tigers couldn’t close the gap in the end.

Next, Mizzou will face another top-10 opponent, the No. 10/13 Texas A&M Aggies, at Mizzou Arena on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on SEC Network. The Tigers will look to bounce back from this loss and secure a victory at home.
