Rapper Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Devontay Banks, was arrested in Florida by U.S. Marshals on a charge of murder for hire and is currently being held without bail. Five people associated with his hip hop collective, “Only the Family,” were also arrested and charged with committing a murder for hire in revenge for the death of a fellow group member. The indictment alleges that on two separate occasions in 2022, the group attempted to kill a person associated with the death of a high-ranking member of OTF, resulting in the death of a passenger in the target’s vehicle. The men used interstate facilities such as planes, cars, cell phones, and the internet to commit the crime. The indictment includes charges of conspiracy, use of interstate facilities to commit murder for hire resulting in death, use of firearms and machine guns, possession of firearms in furtherance of a crime of violence resulting in death, possession of a machine gun, and criminal forfeiture. Lil Durk is the founder of OTF and produces hip hop music primarily from Chicago artists. The rapper “King Von,” who was shot and killed in Atlanta in 2020, was part of OTF and collaborated with Lil Durk. The five indicted men have not yet commented on the charges, and it is unclear if they have retained attorneys.
