A Missouri woman has been sentenced to two life terms for her involvement in the death of a Benton County mother and her unborn child. The incident occurred when the defendant, Savanah Hill, along with two accomplices, brutally murdered 21-year-old Alyssa Cannon and her four-year-old son in June 2019.
During the trial, testimony revealed that Hill and her co-defendants had planned the murder for several days before luring Cannon and her son to a secluded area in Benton County under the pretense of buying a dog from her. Once they arrived, Hill and the others attacked Cannon, strangling her with a rope and suffocating her son. They then transported the bodies to a nearby creek bed where they were discovered by authorities.
Hill was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of armed criminal action in connection with the deaths. She was sentenced to two consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole. The judge in the case called the crime “heinous” and noted the extreme level of violence involved in the murders.
Family members of the victims expressed relief at the sentencing, stating that they were grateful for justice being served in the case. They also praised law enforcement officials for their diligent work in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
The Benton County prosecutor vowed to continue fighting for justice for the victims and their families, emphasizing that the state would not tolerate such senseless acts of violence. The case serves as a reminder of the tragedy that can result from the actions of individuals who lack empathy or regard for human life.
