KOMU 8 has compiled a list of candidates and propositions for the upcoming Aug. 6 ballot to help voters make informed decisions. Polling places will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., and no-excuse absentee voting is available until Aug. 5. Voters are required to present a valid photo ID with an expiration date issued by the federal government or the state of Missouri. Those without a valid ID can vote using a provisional ballot.
National races in the primary election include U.S. Senators and Representatives. Sen. Josh Hawley is running unopposed in the Republican primary, while Democrats have four candidates running. U.S. Representative District 3 and 6 also have multiple candidates from different parties vying for a spot. Statewide races for governor and secretary of state are also on the ballot, with current Gov. Mike Parson reaching his term limit.
Republican candidates for governor include Jay Ashcroft, Bill Eigel, and Mike Kehoe, while Democratic candidates include Sheryl Gladney, Mike Hamra, and Crystal Quade. For lieutenant governor, there are multiple Republican candidates such as Tim Baker, Paul Berry, and Holly Rehder, alongside Democratic candidates Richard Brown and Anastasia Syes.
Voters can find their polling place on the Secretary of State’s website and must make their voices heard by casting their votes on Aug. 6. The primary election will determine the candidate for each political party, with the general election on Nov. 5 deciding the winner of each seat.
