New Temple Locations in the Midwest Recently Announced by Church News

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced plans to build three new temples in the United States’ Midwest. President Russell M. Nelson revealed the locations of the temples at various general conferences in 2023 and 2024.

The temples will be built in Springfield, Missouri; Mason, Ohio (a suburb of Cincinnati); and Johnston, Iowa (northwest metro Des Moines). President Nelson announced plans for 15 new temples, including Springfield, during the 193rd Annual General Conference in April 2023. A year later, during the 194th Annual General Conference, plans for 15 more temples, including for Des Moines and Cincinnati, were announced.

Springfield will be the third temple in Missouri, with a population of 170,188 residents. Cincinnati will be the third temple in Ohio, with almost 2.3 million residents in the metropolitan area. Des Moines will be the first temple in Iowa, with a city population of 210,381 residents.

The new temples will serve Church members in these areas, providing a place for worship and religious ceremonies. Groundbreaking dates have not yet been announced for the temples, but this news brings excitement to the communities and Church members in the Midwest region.
