Three 11-year-old girls in Kent, Washington are being praised for their heroic actions in thwarting the alleged attempted kidnapping of their 6-year-old neighbor. The girls were walking towards an ice cream truck when they saw a man holding their neighbor’s wrist and looking scared. They began recording on their phones and asked the man if he knew the girl, to which he claimed he did, but the child shook her head in denial. The man then put the girl down and fled, while the girls escorted the child safely back to her apartment.
Kent police quickly arrived at the scene after a witness called 911 to report the attempted kidnapping. The suspect, a 40-year-old man from Kent, was subsequently detained and arrested for kidnapping. The child’s parents confirmed that the man was a stranger, and expressed their gratitude for the quick actions of the girls and the police in apprehending the suspect.
The police commended the girls for their maturity and protectiveness, stating that without their intervention, the outcome could have been much worse. The girls’ quick thinking, along with the detailed description provided by the witness and the swift response of the police, ensured that the situation was resolved safely. The suspect was booked into the King County jail, but his name was not released by the police.
