Missouri High School Football to Implement Instant Replay for Championship Games
The Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) has announced the introduction of instant replay procedures for its prestigious Football Show-Me Bowl, set to take effect this season. During its June board meeting, the MSHSAA confirmed that the use of instant replay will be limited to championship games, beginning with the 2025 season, but will be actively used for the Show-Me Bowl starting this year.
According to a press release from the MSHSAA, the replay system aims to rectify clear and significant officiating errors, not to review every play. This marks a significant shift in high school football officiating, aligning it more closely with collegiate and professional standards.
In a complementary change, the Show-Me Bowl festivities will now take place at Spratt Memorial Stadium, located on the campus of Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph. This move, effective for at least the next four years, replaces the event’s previous home at the University of Missouri’s Faurot Field. The championship games will encompass all six 11-man classifications and the 8-man title game, which was successfully hosted at Missouri Western last year.
As high school sports evolve, these changes signal a commitment to enhanced accuracy in officiating while enriching the championship experience for players and fans alike.
In other high school sports news, various athletes across states are making headlines with recent commitments, while ESPN’s "SportsCenter" will be on-site at a Texas high school football scrimmage. Additionally, Texas UIL football championship games will be broadcast for free as part of a new agreement, broadening access for fans.
