The sheriff has faced significant backlash for accusations that include offering former deputy Tony Kirchner a chance to save his job by rolling "golden dice" and an incident where he reportedly handcuffed Interim Jail Commissioner Tammy Ross during a tense standoff, captured on the facility’s security cameras.
Bailey emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating that Missouri law authorizes him to remove officials involved in unlawful conduct and neglecting their duties. He underscored the necessity for accountability in the face of such allegations.
Local advocacy group Holy Joe Society has also voiced concerns, previously urging Bailey and other officials to investigate Montgomery’s actions.
