U.S. District Judge Sentences Missouri Man to 13 Years for Fentanyl Distribution
JEFFERSON CITY, MO — Jordan Shelton, a 42-year-old resident of Mexico, Missouri, received a 13-year federal prison sentence on Tuesday for conspiracy to distribute fentanyl. The sentencing follows Shelton’s arrest in August 2022, when local law enforcement from Mexico and Columbia executed a search warrant at his home, uncovering significant quantities of both fentanyl powder and capsules.
In January, Shelton entered a guilty plea for the conspiracy charge, highlighting the severe issues surrounding fentanyl distribution in the region. The investigation was spearheaded by a collaboration between the Mexico Police Department, Columbia Police Department, and federal agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
U.S. District Judge ultimately sentenced Shelton to 160 months in federal prison, in addition to four years of supervised release upon completion of his prison term. Notably, Shelton will not be eligible for parole, underscoring the U.S. judicial system’s stringent stance on drug-related crimes, particularly those involving dangerous substances like fentanyl.
The case is part of a larger national effort to combat the opioid crisis, as law enforcement agencies aim to disrupt the supply chains of illicit drugs. The collaboration among local and federal authorities continues to be crucial in tackling these pressing public safety issues.
