Jubilee at Texas Parkway Elevator Outage Leaves Seniors Stranded for Two Months
MISSOURI CITY, Texas — The elevator at Jubilee at Texas Parkway senior apartments has been out of service for nearly two months, leaving many residents, particularly those on the upper floors, feeling isolated and vulnerable.
A local group of veterans has stepped up to assist. They recently carried bags filled with essential toiletries, hygiene products, and nonperishable food items up 80 steps to reach seniors in need. Fourth-floor resident Mary Hordge expressed gratitude for their efforts, stating, “I’ve been locked up in the apartment because I have a heart and a breathing problem."
Veterans advocate LaShondra Jones organized the initiative, aiming to provide support not just for veteran residents but for all tenants affected by the elevator failure. Navy veteran Christopher Fahey highlighted the crucial role of community support during such trying times, noting his own struggles with PTSD and the fears that isolation can bring.
Missouri City Council Member Jeffrey L. Boney criticized the prolonged outage and revealed that the city is issuing daily citations against the property management. Boney, with help from U.S. Rep. Al Green, indicated that the management company has a 15-day deadline to resolve the issue.
Meanwhile, frustrated residents like Renee Hill, who has COPD, are contemplating moving out due to the ongoing elevator issues. Apartment management has yet to provide a clear update but has stated they are awaiting a crucial repair part.
