Boonville Welcomes Missouri Symphony After Three Decades
Boonville—The Missouri Symphony (MOSY) made a triumphant return to Boonville’s historic Thespian Hall, marking its first performance in thirty years at this mid-Missouri musical landmark, over 160 years old. Music director Wilbur Lee expressed pride in continuing the tradition of excellence that past orchestras, conductors, and soloists have established at the venue.
"This hall has seen so many great musicians, and we are grateful to share in that legacy," Lee stated after a warm reception. The symphony, a Columbia staple for 55 years, commenced its summer tour at Thespian Hall, showcasing its commitment to making classical music accessible to smaller communities.
Executive Director Trent Nash noted the importance of reaching audiences beyond Columbia, saying, "We’re excited to bring classical music to those who may not otherwise experience it." The performance featured beloved scores from classics like "Back to the Future," "Harry Potter," and "Jurassic Park," drawing an enthusiastic crowd.
In an age dominated by rapid technology, conductor Lin highlighted the importance of slowing down and immersing oneself in the music, stating, "We are gradually losing experiences like this. It’s essential to take a moment, listen, and appreciate."
The concert lasted approximately 1½ hours with a 20-minute intermission, and the symphony will continue its summer tour with upcoming performances in Moberly and the Lake of the Ozarks.
