Maxwell Warner Commits to Mizzou on Chicago Broadcast
In a thrilling announcement on Monday, 2026 three-star running back Maxwell Warner officially committed to the University of Missouri during an ABC7 Chicago broadcast, a proud moment for both him and his family. Hailing from Chicago’s Whitney Young High School, Warner’s recruitment gained momentum after receiving an unexpected offer from Mizzou’s running backs coach Curtis Luper in late December.
Warner expressed his initial unfamiliarity with Missouri football before the pivotal offer. "He just wanted to see how I felt about playing running back in the SEC, and I said that I would be ecstatic about it," he shared. Luper, who spent significant time discussing community service and team values with Warner and his family, helped solidify the relationship, particularly resonating with the family’s own community service emphasis.
The multifaceted athlete, who also excels in soccer and track, made the switch to football during his freshman year. His speed and agility have played a key role in his success, culminating in a standout junior season where he rushed for 518 yards and eight touchdowns on 107 carries, alongside 10 receptions for 184 yards. Warner’s stepfather introduced him to legendary running backs like Barry Sanders and Walter Payton, further fueling his passion for the game.
Described as having incredible upside and vision, Warner’s compact running style and strong work ethic set him apart as a coveted recruit. His commitment marks Mizzou’s fifth pledge for the Class of 2026, joining other talents such as tight end Isaac Jensen and quarterback Gavin Sidwar. As Warner prepares for his senior year, fans are eager to see his continued development on the field.
