Remembering Roger Dean Crocker: A Life of Service and Dedication
Roger Dean Crocker, 78, a decorated military veteran, esteemed judo instructor, and devoted father, passed away on June 18, 2025. Born in November 1946, Roger was the son of Hyla and Anna Crocker, and dedicated his career to public service in the State of Missouri’s Department of Health and Economic Development.
Roger earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Economics, along with an MBA in Management from Lincoln University, and pursued further studies at the University of Central Missouri and the University of Missouri, embodying a commitment to lifelong learning.
A proud veteran of the Vietnam War, Roger served over 28 years in the military, transitioning from active duty to the Army Reserves, and was instrumental in Military Intelligence for the United States Central Command during critical operations like Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom. He retired in 2007 with the rank of Sergeant Major.
Beyond his military and public service, Roger’s passion for judo spanned decades. Starting in 1973, he achieved the rank of 5th degree black belt and served as head instructor at the Jefferson City YMCA before continuing to teach in Florida.
Roger is survived by his sons, Dean and Jacob, and leaves a lasting legacy of integrity and mentorship. Services will be held on June 27 at Slater-Millard Funeral Home, with donations encouraged to the VA Hospital or a local judo program in his memory.
