The Phoenix Suns are trading veteran forward Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets, according to multiple reports. In return, the Suns will acquire Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the 10th pick in the upcoming NBA draft, and additional future picks. This marks another significant move in Durant’s storied career, which includes 15 All-Star selections and an impressive average of 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game during his time in Phoenix. Over his 18-year career, he ranks sixth in NBA history with a scoring average of 27.2 points per game.
Durant’s career has seen him play for five different franchises. He was selected second overall in the 2007 NBA draft by the Seattle SuperSonics and later led the Oklahoma City Thunder to an NBA Finals appearance in 2012. After joining the Golden State Warriors in 2016, Durant won two championships and earned Finals MVP honors in 2017 and 2018. Following an Achilles injury, he signed with the Brooklyn Nets but faced challenges, missing an entire season before making two playoff appearances.
Durant was traded to the Suns in February 2023, but the team struggled to meet expectations, being eliminated in the second round of the playoffs in 2023 and suffering a first-round sweep in 2024. Durant will turn 37 in September and is entering the final year of his contract, which pays $54.7 million for the upcoming season. He will be eligible for a two-year contract extension worth up to $122 million starting July 6.
