Press Release: Missouri S&T Senior Launches Ambitious Aerospace Dreams
ROLLA, MO — Elton John’s timeless classic “Rocket Man” has found a new embodiment in a young aerospace enthusiast, Nicolas Graham. A senior at Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T), Graham’s lifelong passion for engineering and space has propelled him into a promising career in aerospace.
Born in 2003 and influenced by his engineer parents, Graham’s fascination with rocketry ignited during a visit to the Johnson Space Center at age seven. This early experience, along with his involvement in the Rocket Design Team at Missouri S&T, culminated in a significant achievement—launching his own liquid-propelled rocket. In April 2024, Graham successfully fired his 7-foot rocket into the sky from California’s Mojave Desert.
“It was a proud moment for me, and I owe it all to the support of my team and fellow rocketeers,” Graham stated. His achievement makes Missouri S&T only the 12th educational institution where a student has flown a liquid-propellant rocket.
Graham aims to utilize his expertise in propulsion engineering to enhance accessibility to space. “I want to help build a future where more people can live and thrive off Earth,” he emphasizes. His journey is further enriched by internships with industry giants like Firefly Aerospace and NASA.
Missouri S&T, with its robust aerospace programs, provides Graham and other students invaluable resources, fostering hands-on experiences that prepare them for impactful careers in space exploration.
