Lodi Hosts "Field Blends" Tour to Promote Wine Destination Appeal
Lodi, CA – June 7 – The Lodi Winegrape Commission, in partnership with Visit Lodi, has successfully showcased the region as a prime wine destination during an immersive tour named "Field Blends." This annual event, initiated by food and beverage expert Maryam Ahmed, brought together a diverse group of 12 wine enthusiasts and professionals who aimed to foster deeper connections with the Lodi community and its agricultural heritage.
In its fourth year, the Field Blends program diverges from traditional wine tours by emphasizing education over mere sampling. Attendees engaged with Lodi’s landscapes, labor force, and agricultural practices. Highlights included a visit to LangeTwins Winery in Acampo, where participants gained insight into the family-run operations and grape cultivation methods. Additionally, the San Joaquin Historical Museum offered a glimpse into Lodi’s rich history as a wine hub dating back 150 years.
Participants hailed from various locations, including New York and Mississippi, with many experiencing Lodi for the first time. Ahmed noted that over 80% of tour attendees usually have no prior knowledge of the area, allowing for a fresh perspective on Lodi’s wine culture. Krishna Chapatwala, a wine shop owner from Atlanta, expressed enthusiasm about bringing Lodi wines to Georgia after learning more about the region’s versatile grape-growing capabilities.
The trip’s atmosphere resonated with attendees like Brooklyn’s Luis Gomez, who appreciated the blend of urban and rural elements in Lodi. Ahmed facilitated the tour with the assistance of local leaders, including Stuart Spencer of the Lodi Winegrape Commission, who highlighted the role of such initiatives in amplifying Lodi’s presence on national wine shelves.
With promises to promote Lodi’s story and wines, Visit Lodi’s Executive Director Wes Rhea emphasized the impact of showcasing the area’s unique community. For more information about Field Blends, visit maryamandcompany.com.
