Springfield Heart Walk Draws Support for Local Cardiac Health
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – More than 500 participants gathered in Springfield on Saturday for the Southwest Missouri Heart Walk, an event organized by the American Heart Association (AHA) to promote heart health and raise vital funds. The walk serves multiple purposes: encouraging physical activity, generating awareness about heart disease, and honoring both survivors and those lost to heart disease and stroke.
Lisa Meagher, the AHA’s development director for southwest Missouri, highlighted the educational aspect of the event, emphasizing the importance of hands-only CPR. “Cardiac arrests can happen anywhere—in parks, grocery stores, and restaurants. It’s crucial for the community to be informed and prepared,” she stated.
The Heart Walk successfully raised over $120,000 to support the AHA’s mission and initiatives. As participants walked, they not only contributed funds but also engaged with valuable resources to enhance their knowledge of cardiac health.
This community effort not only brings awareness to heart disease but also fosters a collective commitment to healthier lifestyles. The success of the event underscores the significant role of education and community involvement in combating heart disease, a leading cause of death in the U.S.
