Israel has confirmed the retrieval of the body of Thai hostage Nattapong Pinta, who was kidnapped in Gaza during the October 7, 2023, attacks. His body was returned to Israel following a military operation, with the Prime Minister’s office stating he was killed shortly after his abduction from Kibbutz Nir Oz. This discovery follows the retrieval of two Israeli-American hostages’ bodies two days prior, while around 55 hostages remain captive in Gaza, with over half believed to be dead.
Pinta was taken by the Mujahideen Brigades, the same group responsible for other hostages’ abductions. The Israel Defense Forces located his body in the Rafah area based on intelligence information. The hostage forum expressed its condolences to Pinta’s family and urged Israeli authorities to secure remaining hostages and properly honor those who have died.
Among the foreign hostages, Thais constituted the largest group, mostly agricultural workers residing near southern Israeli kibbutzim. Following the violence, 46 Thais have been reported killed, as confirmed by Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As of now, three Thai hostages remain captive alongside confirmed casualties.
Simultaneously, Israel’s military offensive against Gaza continues, with health officials reporting at least 22 fatalities from recent airstrikes. Strikes targeted the Muwasi area and an apartment building in northern Gaza, resulting in significant civilian casualties, including women and children. Israel asserts its military actions are responses to prior Hamas attacks, which resulted in around 1,200 Israeli deaths mainly among civilians. The ongoing conflict has reportedly led to over 54,000 Palestinian deaths and widespread displacement within Gaza.
