Missouri Sports Betting Set to Launch December 1
Missouri, May 21, 2025 – After a lengthy approval process, Missouri is poised to enter the online sports betting arena on December 1, allowing residents to place legal wagers with various in-state and online sportsbooks.
The Missouri Gaming Commission (MGC) has been diligently reviewing license applications, with the aim of approving around a dozen sportsbooks before the launch. Significant milestones are scheduled, including the awarding of two untethered licenses on August 15, which do not require an association with a physical casino or sports team. Meanwhile, sportsbooks seeking partnerships must apply by September 12.
Industry leaders like FanDuel, DraftKings, and BetMGM have already announced their intentions to enter the Missouri market, motivated by the state’s favorable tax rate of 10% on gross gaming revenue and a relatively low $500,000 licensing fee. These companies previously collaborated on a successful ballot measure to legalize sports betting, which narrowly passed in November 2024, overcoming legal hurdles and opposition campaigns.
Prospective licensees can present their cases at an MGC meeting on August 13, with decisions expected shortly thereafter. Additional brands anticipated to join the launch include BetRivers, Fanatics, Underdog, and potentially Hard Rock, given its operations in nearby Illinois.
Despite an initial plan for a June 30 launch, delays arose for various reasons, including regulatory hurdles that postponed the timeline by nearly five months. Missouri’s journey to legal sports betting will mark a significant advancement in its gaming industry, with December 1 marking the beginning of a new era for local sports bettors.
