Ohio Police Discover Raccoon With Meth Pipe During Traffic Stop

In an unusual incident during a traffic stop in Ohio, a police officer discovered a pet raccoon named “Chewy” sitting in the driver’s seat with a glass methamphetamine pipe in its mouth. After arresting the driver, Victoria Vidal, 55, for having an outstanding warrant and a suspended driver’s license, officers found the raccoon holding the meth pipe. Body cam footage captured the officer humorously noting, “The raccoon has her meth pipe,” as he retrieved it from Chewy, who then produced another pipe.

Subsequently, a thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a significant quantity of methamphetamine, crack cocaine, and additional used meth pipes. Vidal was charged with three counts of drug paraphernalia possession and cited for driving under suspension. Additional charges for crack cocaine possession could follow based on lab results.

Officers ensured that Chewy was unharmed and had the proper legal documentation for ownership, which is permitted in Ohio. They placed the raccoon in a carrier and contacted the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to facilitate its safe rehoming.

The Springfield Township Police Department shared the bizarre encounter on social media, noting this was their first encounter with a raccoon and a meth pipe, while reaffirming their commitment to community safety, regardless of the unexpected challenges they face.
