University of Missouri Gymnastics Welcomes Illinois Transfer Makayla Green

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri gymnastics team announced the signing of Makayla Green, an accomplished uneven bars specialist and Illinois transfer, on Wednesday. Head coach Shannon Welker expressed enthusiasm about Green’s addition to the team, highlighting her impressive talent and leadership qualities as a potential team captain.

In her senior season at the University of Illinois, Green showcased her exceptional skills, securing multiple uneven bars titles and garnering a career-best score of 9.925 on four occasions, including at the Big Ten Championships. Her stellar performances played a crucial role in leading the Fighting Illini to a second-place finish at their quad meet and a commendable sixth overall at the NCAA Championship First Round meet on April 3.

“Makayla brings incredible talent to our uneven bars squad and embodies what it means to be a Tiger,” said Welker, underscoring the positive impact Green is expected to have on the program.

Green, originally from Mays Landing, New Jersey, began her collegiate career in 2022 and competed in nine meets on vault, three on bars, and one on beam during her time at Illinois. She is now pursuing a degree in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences with a focus on health behavior change and earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2024.

Before her collegiate career, Green had an impressive competitive background with Bright Stars Gymnastics Academy, where she was coached by notable figures and earned recognition as a two-time Junior Olympic National Qualifier. She also excelled in the Level 10 category, finishing first in the region on vault.
