Cris Swaters, a spokesperson for the Springfield Police Department, stated that officers were called for a wellness check on McGee at his home on Friday morning. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries later that day. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The university announced McGee’s passing on Saturday, confirming that he sustained his injuries at home. McGee was entering his fifth season with the Missouri State Bears, having earned all-conference honors in 2023 as the team’s starting safety for the current season.
