Michael Pitt, known for his role in HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire,” was arrested on Friday and charged with multiple sex crimes and assaults linked to incidents in 2020 and 2021. The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office has charged him with various offenses, including two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, as well as counts for criminal sexual acts, assault, attempted assault, and second-degree strangulation. Pitt pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released after posting a $15,000 bail.
According to court records, one of the assaults involved the use of a cinderblock in June 2021, while another incident in August of the same year involved alleged strangulation. Details about the number of individuals accusing Pitt or their relationship to him have not been disclosed. The arrest was first reported by TMZ.
Pitt’s attorney, Cary London, issued a statement defending the actor, asserting that he would never consider committing such crimes. London indicated that they look forward to demonstrating Pitt’s innocence through evidence rather than media speculation.
Pitt, who has been divorced twice, gained prominence for his performances in both “Boardwalk Empire,” which aired from 2010 to 2014, and as Henry Parker in the popular teen drama “Dawson’s Creek.” Following his arrest, Pitt is scheduled to appear in court in Brooklyn on June 17. The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office has not commented further on the indictment.
