Missouri Valley Football Conference Unveils New Governance Structure Ahead of Leadership Change
ST. LOUIS – The Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) has announced a new governance structure aimed at bolstering its position within NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) ahead of the retirement of long-standing commissioner Patty Viverito in 2025.
The MVFC President’s Council has appointed Jeff Jackson as the new commissioner, effective July 1, 2025. Jackson currently serves as the commissioner of the Missouri Valley Conference, which is associated with five MVFC members. Josh Fenton, the current commissioner of The Summit League, has been named Executive Advisor for the MVFC.
Viverito, who has led the MVFC since its inception as the Gateway Collegiate Athletic Conference, will conclude her tenure after 40 years of dedicated service. “I am happy to turn the reins over to new leadership, confident that the MVFC is equipped to sustain its record of achievement,” she remarked.
Jackson expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with both the MVFC Presidents Council and Fenton. “This partnership will ensure the ongoing success of the MVFC while providing exceptional experiences for student-athletes,” he said. Fenton echoed his excitement about this partnership and emphasized the importance of advancing the interests of football programs.
The MVFC’s new governance model will include a Division of a Chief Operating Officer, set to be advertised soon. This updated structure consists of a board of directors, an executive committee, and various councils aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and promoting brand growth.
University of North Dakota President Andy Armacost, currently the MVFC President’s Chair, stated, “This restructuring ensures the continued success and stability of the MVFC.” The conference comprises ten institutions, reaffirming its commitment to excellence in sports functionality and student engagement.
