Missouri Board of Curators Announces Major Investment in Athletics
COLUMBIA, MO – The Missouri Board of Curators is making a significant commitment to bolster the university’s athletics program, announcing an investment of $25 million in direct support for the previous fiscal year, along with a $15 million internal loan to cover an operating deficit for fiscal year 2024.
Todd Graves, Chair of the Board of Curators, emphasized the importance of this decision: “This reflects a shared commitment to Mizzou athletics’ championship culture.” The investment is seen as a crucial step toward enhancing the competitiveness of Missouri’s athletic programs in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Graves noted, “The momentum of Mizzou athletics is undeniable. Now is the time to make the necessary investments to execute our plans.”
The funding will support over 550 student-athletes across 20 programs, including 11 women’s and nine men’s sports, providing essential resources to enhance their competitive edge. “Our athletics programs are on their way to new heights,” Graves added, highlighting the board’s backing of the university’s vision for growth and success during this pivotal time.
University of Missouri President Mun Choi echoed these sentiments, asserting the institution’s commitment to achieving excellence through meaningful investments in athletics. “During a time of unprecedented change in college athletics, it is necessary to support the success of our programs, which are elevating Mizzou’s stature,” he stated.
This substantial financial backing comes at a time when many collegiate athletic programs are navigating evolving landscapes, underscoring the Board’s dedication to maintaining high standards and fostering an environment where Missouri Tigers can thrive both on and off the field.
