Tigers Fall Short Against No. 15/20 Alabama in Thriller

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – In a nail-biting clash, the University of Missouri softball team battled fiercely but ultimately succumbed to No. 15/20 Alabama, losing 7-6 at Rhoads Stadium on Saturday. The defeat marks the Tigers’ record at 23-28 for the season, with a 4-16 tally in SEC play, while Alabama improves to 34-18 overall and 10-10 in the conference.

Senior catcher Julia Crenshaw stole the spotlight, hitting a career-matching two home runs, including a crucial three-run homer in the seventh inning that tied the game at 6-6. Crenshaw’s stellar performance included four RBIs, marking her 16th multi-hit game of the season. This year, she has tallied a remarkable 14 home runs, surpassing her combined total of 13 from her first three seasons with the Tigers.

In a competitive game, Alabama surged ahead with six consecutive runs after Mizzou initially led 1-0 thanks to Crenshaw’s fifth leadoff homer. The Crimson Tide’s Brooke Ellestad contributed a three-run double, and Kali Heivilin hit a two-run bomb that helped propel Alabama’s lead.

Mizzou’s Madison Walker also shined, adding a two-run homer of her own, bringing her season total to 18, placing her in striking distance of the school single-season record.

Despite a valiant comeback attempt, the Tigers faced heartbreak when Alabama secured the win after a late-game miscue allowed them to score.

The team will look to rebound as they play the final game against Alabama on Sunday, followed by a home series against No. 24 Georgia starting May 1. Fans can follow the Tigers on social media and learn more at MUTigers.com.
