University of Missouri gymnast Helen Hu, from Chicago, Illinois, secured the NCAA Gymnastics Balance Beam National Championship at the NCAA Championship Semifinal held at Dickies Arena. Her stellar performance also helped the Tigers advance to the NCAA Championship Final as a team, marking the first time in the program’s history.
Hu’s winning routine scored a 9.9875, clinching MU’s spot in the final competition. In a nail-biting moment, the final spot came down to Mizzou and Florida, with Hu’s performance ultimately surpassing the Gators by a close margin of 197.3000-197.2000.
As a redshirt senior in her final year of collegiate gymnastics, Hu has consistently excelled on the balance beam and earned numerous individual awards, including being named a Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association First Team All-American and the Southeastern Conference Specialist of the Year.
This victory also marks the first individual championship in the history of the program, with Hu joining track and field athlete Jonathan Seremes as the second individual national champion for Mizzou in 2025.
Next, Mizzou will compete in the NCAA Championship Final against No. 2 Oklahoma, No. 4 Utah, and No. 5 UCLA at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. The national title meet is scheduled for Saturday, April 19 at 3 p.m. and will be televised on ABC.
