The University of Missouri baseball team secured a 10-9 victory over in-state rival Missouri State with Jackson Lovich’s grand slam leading a seven-run second inning. Lovich’s five RBIs and clutch hitting propelled the Tigers to their fifth consecutive win in the series against the Bears. Missouri built an early 7-0 lead, but Missouri State fought back with rallies in the fourth and fifth innings. However, the Tigers responded with a three-run rally in the sixth inning to take the lead for good. Freshman pitcher PJ Green came in to secure the victory, allowing only two runs and retiring six straight hitters. Lovich’s grand slam was his second of the season, and three additional Tigers had multi-hit games.
Missouri now holds a 35-31 advantage in the all-time series against Missouri State and remains undefeated in Tuesday and Wednesday midweek contests this spring. Lovich’s performance marked his second grand slam of the season, and Chris Patterson extended his hit streak to seven games. The Tigers will now face No. 16 Oklahoma in a three-game SEC series starting Thursday evening at Taylor Stadium.
