Missouri Marijuana Regulators Identify Additional 6,000 Products for Recall in 2023

A large marijuana recall in Missouri two years ago led regulators to pull 62,000 products off the shelves due to health and safety concerns related to a THC concentrate. Recently, the Missouri Division of Cannabis Regulation added 6,000 more products to the recall list made with an ingredient from the same company. This decision followed an order to release Midwest Magic brand products from the 2023 recall list, leading to the discovery of additional marijuana products containing THC oil made with unregulated cannabis.

Despite no adverse reactions being reported for the recalled products, the division emphasized the potential threat to health and safety by recalling them. Delta Extraction, a licensed cannabis manufacturer, was suspended in 2023 for using untested cannabis in their products, leading to a statewide recall. The company argued that the process they used to make the distillate was safe and legal, but the state disagreed.

Many companies have opted to destroy the recalled products, with nearly 157,000 remaining items on hold, including THC concentrate, marijuana flower, infused edibles, pre-rolled joints, and vape cartridges. The complexity of the recall process has raised challenges for both regulators and licensees, with uncertainties about which products can be sold. This ongoing situation highlights the importance of thorough quality control and adherence to regulations in the cannabis industry to ensure public safety.
