Saturday Night Live has a long history of impersonating public figures, from celebrities to politicians and beyond. While some have found the imitations flattering, others have been less than impressed by their SNL doppelgängers.
One recent example is Aimee Lou Wood, who spoke out about her portrayal on SNL’s parody of the show “White Lotus.” Wood did not take kindly to the portrayal and called it mean and unfunny on her Instagram Stories.
Other celebrities, such as Sarah Palin and Anderson Cooper, have also expressed their displeasure with how they were portrayed on SNL. Palin famously made an appearance on the show to counter the impression, while Cooper felt the parody lacked nuance.
Sean Spicer and Kellyanne Conway had notes for their impersonators, with Spicer feeling Melissa McCarthy “could dial back” and Conway wanting to be portrayed as happier. Mark Wahlberg, Kathie Lee Gifford, Meghan McCain, and Carole Baskin also had negative reactions to their SNL portrayals.
Britney Spears was left unimpressed by Ariana Grande’s impression of her, but made sure to praise Grande’s voice. Neil deGrasse Tyson felt his impersonation could have been better, while Barbara Walters initially hated Gilda Radner’s caricature of her until her daughter convinced her to “lighten up.”
In the world of SNL impressions, it seems not everyone is flattered by imitation.
