Mizzou football honored the late Demetrious Johnson by dedicating the Demetrious Johnson Tiger Lounge in the Mizzou football building. The lounge offers a space for players and staff to relax and gather, featuring couches, televisions, a ping pong table, and workspaces. Johnson, a former Mizzou football player who passed away in 2022, was remembered for his impact on the program and the community.
During his time at Mizzou, Johnson helped the Tigers to 28 victories and three consecutive bowl appearances. He excelled on the field, earning All-Big Eight Conference honors and leading the team in interceptions. After his college career, Johnson was drafted into the NFL and played for the Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins.
Johnson’s daughters, Taylore and Alexandria, spoke about their father’s love for Mizzou and how the university shaped his life and values. Johnson’s legacy lives on through the charitable foundation he established to help underprivileged children and families in St. Louis.
In addition to his football career, Johnson hosted radio shows and mentored current and former Tigers. He was married for 36 years and had six children. After his passing, Johnson was inducted into the St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame in 2022.
The dedication of the Demetrious Johnson Tiger Lounge was a fitting tribute to a man who left a lasting impact on Mizzou football and the community. Follow Mizzou Athletics on MUTigers.com for the latest updates on the Tigers.
