Christians around the world celebrated Palm Sunday, marking the beginning of Holy Week, which commemorates Jesus Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem. In India, the Christian-majority state of Mizoram observed Palm Sunday with religious fervor. Children in towns and villages participated in processions, carrying palm leaves and chanting ‘Hosanna’ to celebrate Jesus’s entry into the city. The trend of Palm Sunday was also seen on Google searches.

The liturgical services on Palm Sunday recall the Jews honoring Jesus with olive branches as he entered Jerusalem. Special prayer services were held at churches of different denominations, with adults joining the processions led by children. In Kuravilangad, Archpriest Fr Dr Thomas Menachery supervised the preparation of palm fronds for distribution at the Major Archiepiscopal Martha Mariam Archdeacon’s pilgrimage church.

The celebrations of Palm Sunday were a reminder of the upcoming days of Holy Week, where Christians reflect on the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus. The festive atmosphere included special teas served by churches as part of the commemoration. Overall, Palm Sunday was a time for believers to come together, remember the significance of Jesus’s entry into Jerusalem, and prepare for the solemn days ahead.
