An 18-year-old Columbia resident, Jace McKernan, has been charged with First and Second Degree Burglary after allegedly breaking into the Mizzou Football South End Zone facility and attempting to sell stolen items on Facebook Marketplace. Columbia police officers discovered various Mizzou sports-related items, including Nike Air Max sneakers, Jordan football gloves, a Wilson football, Mizzou Tiger hats, and a hoodie, being sold online. The University of Missouri athletic equipment operations department confirmed that the items had been stolen from the facility. Surveillance videos reportedly showed McKernan breaking into the area multiple times between March 2 and March 25, 2025, and stealing alcohol, paintings, and other items.
A search of McKernan’s home on March 25 uncovered additional stolen items such as lanyards, shoes, alcohol, and paintings, as well as a gorilla mask believed to have been used during the thefts. Court documents indicated that McKernan painted his face black during the robberies, a fact he later admitted to officers. McKernan is currently being held at the Boone County Jail without bond. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of securing facilities and the repercussions of engaging in criminal activities. The Mizzou community and authorities are working together to address and resolve this case, ensuring the safety and security of the university’s property.
