Governor Mike Kehoe of Missouri has announced the first 15 communities in the state to receive the prestigious Missouri Blue Shield designation. This recognition acknowledges their dedication to public safety, effective law enforcement, and building strong community partnerships. The Blue Shield Program, established under Executive Order 25-03 as part of Governor Kehoe’s Safer Missouri initiative, aims to support local jurisdictions that prioritize reducing crime and investing in law enforcement.
The designated communities will have access to targeted state grant opportunities, including funding for law enforcement training and equipment. The Missouri Department of Public Safety administers the program and is currently reviewing additional applications. Communities must meet specific eligibility requirements to qualify, such as affirming a commitment to reducing violent crime and implementing community policing initiatives.
Designated communities will be required to submit annual reports to maintain their status. The first 15 communities to achieve the Blue Shield designation include Jefferson County, Arnold, Warrensburg, Carter County, Miller County, Sedalia, Kennett, Branson, and more. Once designated, communities receive a public relations toolkit to promote their commitment to safety and partnership with law enforcement. The designation serves as a recognition of their efforts to create safer and more secure communities.
