Assistance provided by MDC to landowners for conserving Missouri’s natural resources

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is providing support to private landowners, communities, and organizations to help conserve natural resources through community conservation funding opportunities. This assistance includes improving wildlife habitat, managing forests, restoring native ecosystems, and enhancing land stewardship. MDC forester Gary Gognat explains that they offer technical assistance, cost-share programs, wildlife and habitat management, and community support to landowners. One recent partnership involved creating a forest opening and wildlife watering facility on a property to attract more wildlife for hunting and viewing.

The funding covered 90% of the costs, including dozer work, soil tests, lime, fertilizer, and seed. The MDC worked with a local store to mix the materials for a one-pass application. This program, along with others, offers guidance on land and habitat management, forestry practices, and conservation planning to benefit landowners and communities while utilizing MDC’s expertise and resources.

The MDC encourages landowners and communities to actively participate in conservation efforts through various programs available. Those interested in learning more can visit MDC’s website to explore community conservation funding opportunities. This initiative aims to support conservation efforts while benefiting landowners and communities throughout Missouri.
