Murphy, the cherished bald eagle, passes away after severe storms ravage Missouri | Latest News, Sports, Employment opportunities

Murphy, a beloved bald eagle who gained popularity for incubating a rock in 2023, died from head trauma sustained during violent storms in Missouri last week. The 33-year-old bird, who lived at the World Bird Sanctuary in Valley Park, Missouri, surpassed the average lifespan of 25 years. Sanctuary officials believe the storms that caused significant destruction and claimed 12 lives in the state may have played a factor in Murphy’s death. The sanctuary typically has contingency plans for environmental situations, and birds have access to shelters to weather storms. However, no evacuations were performed at the sanctuary as no tornadoes approached the area. Three other birds that were in the same shelter as Murphy survived the storms. Murphy’s death has led to an outpouring of grief and tributes from the public who had enjoyed watching the eagle over the years. Despite his untimely passing, Murphy leaves behind a legacy of resilience and a reminder of the impact severe weather can have on wildlife.
