Murphy, the bald eagle who became a foster dad, passes away following severe storms in Valley Park, Missouri.

Murphy, a beloved bald eagle at the World Bird Sanctuary in Missouri, has passed away at the age of 33 following intense storms in the region. The sanctuary believes that the storms may have played a role in Murphy’s death, as he sustained head trauma. Despite having shelters for birds during storms, no evacuations were performed as no tornadoes approached the sanctuary.

Murphy gained popularity in 2023 for incubating a rock, and later went on to foster and nurture an injured eaglet back to health. The eaglet was successfully released back into the wild, and another eaglet was placed under Murphy’s care. This second eaglet is expected to be released this summer.

The sanctuary plans to honor Murphy’s legacy by naming the eagle fostering aviary after him, ensuring that he will be remembered for years to come. Murphy’s unique talents and nurturing spirit made him a fan favorite at the sanctuary, and his passing has left a void in the hearts of all who knew him. Despite his untimely death, Murphy’s impact on the sanctuary and his fellow birds will resonate for years to come.
