Missouri has requested assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for damage assessments in 23 counties following deadly storms on Friday that spawned multiple tornadoes. The state is seeking joint preliminary damage assessments for various counties, including Bollinger, Butler, Franklin, Jefferson, St. Louis, and more. These assessments will determine if residents are eligible for federal assistance through FEMA’s Individual Assistance program, which covers temporary housing, repairs, replacement of belongings, and other qualifying expenses.
A total of 368 houses were destroyed, 356 sustained major damage, and 1,058 had minor damage across the state. An EF-2 tornado struck Rolla, damaging over 750 structures, including homes and school buildings. The National Weather Service confirmed 12 tornadoes and reported 12 deaths in Missouri.
Residents with unmet needs are encouraged to contact United Way by dialing 2-1-1 or the American Red Cross at 1-800-733-2767 for assistance. This request for federal disaster assistance marks the beginning of the process to provide aid to those affected by the storms.
