Results from Missouri’s Primary Election for Governor

Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe and House Minority Leader Crystal Quade have emerged as the primary candidates for the upcoming Missouri gubernatorial election in November. Kehoe secured the GOP nomination after defeating several challengers, with endorsements from Gov. Mike Parson and former President Donald Trump. Kehoe’s campaign received substantial financial backing, raising over $4 million for the race. On the Democratic side, Quade prevailed in a competitive five-way contest, ultimately facing off against Springfield businessman Mike Hamra.

Despite significant name recognition and political history within his family, Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft came in third in the Republican primary, behind Kehoe and State Sen. Bill Eigel. Ashcroft, who served as secretary of state since 2017, is the son of former Missouri governor John Ashcroft and struggled to gain traction in the primary race. Kehoe, who previously represented a state Senate district west of Jefferson City, was appointed lieutenant governor in 2018 by Parson.

The general election in November is expected to be a closely watched contest between Kehoe and Quade as they vie for the governor’s office. With the support of prominent political figures and a successful primary campaign, Kehoe is set to compete against Quade to determine the next leader of Missouri.
