Proposed Missouri House Bill Aims to Revise Regulations for Gaming Machines in Non-Casino Settings

Legislation in Missouri is seeking to legalize individual gaming machines outside of casinos through House Bill 970. The bill aims to regulate these machines, currently operating illegally, by setting up a framework for licensed operators to offer gaming options to consumers. Gaming lobbyist Erin Schrimpf supports the bill, citing a demand for local gaming opportunities and the need for consumer protection. Chairman of the Missouri Gaming Commission, Jan Zimmerman, also supports regulation of outside gaming machines to ensure integrity and fairness. Without regulation, any gaming machines outside of a casino are not monitored by the Commission. If HB 970 is passed, it will create an Illegal Gaming Enforcement Fund to investigate and prosecute those breaking the law. The bill has already passed out of the rules committee and is now moving towards being heard on the House floor. Supporters believe that legalizing these machines will provide a safe and regulated environment for consumers while also supporting local businesses. The goal is to offer gaming options that cater to local community standards and protect consumers while preventing illegal gambling.
