A grass fire in northern Boone County was sparked by a burning pickup truck on Tuesday afternoon, according to a spokesperson from the Boone County Fire Protection District. The incident occurred on Crownview Drive between Hallsville and Centralia. Assistant Fire Chief Gale Blomenkamp stated that a man accidentally caught his pickup truck on fire while burning something near a lagoon. Unaware that his vehicle was ablaze, the man then proceeded to drive towards his house. The fire not only consumed the pickup truck but also scorched an acre of grass in its path. Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the man’s house and a neighboring barn, ultimately saving both structures. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported as a result of the incident. This serves as a reminder of the dangers of outdoor burning and the importance of vigilance when conducting such activities. Residents are urged to exercise caution and follow proper safety protocols when engaging in outdoor burning to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
