Day One of Big 12 Championships Ends with Wrestling Event

The University of Missouri wrestling team had a strong showing on the first day of the Big 12 Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Tigers sit in eighth place with 55 points, with two finalists and three wrestlers in placement matches on the horizon for tomorrow.

In the first session, Missouri had a successful start, with seven wrestlers moving on to the next round. Notably, redshirt sophomore Kade Moore secured a spot in the semifinals by defeating the No. 1 seed at 133 pounds. Senior Keegan O’Toole and redshirt sophomore Cam Steed also had dominant performances, advancing to the semifinals with bonus-point wins.

In the second session, Moore’s title run came to an end, but Steed and O’Toole each secured spots in the finals. Five Tigers are still in contention, with Conway and Hawks fighting for seventh place and an opportunity to qualify for the national tournament.

Despite not all wrestlers advancing to the quarterfinals as in past seasons, the Tigers had several standout performances, with Moore and Steed securing their first bids to the NCAA Championship. O’Toole’s dominant performance earned him a spot in his fifth national tournament.

The action continues tomorrow with Sessions III and IV, featuring consolation semifinals, seventh-place matches, and the championship matches. Fans can catch the tournament on ESPN+ and ESPNU.
