Reports: Seattle Seahawks trade QB Geno Smith to Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for third-round pick

The Seattle Seahawks have traded quarterback Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Smith, who set a franchise record for passing yards last season, will be reunited with former Seahawks coach Pete Carroll in Las Vegas. The Seahawks finished second in the NFC West with a 10-7 record but missed the postseason. Seattle’s coach Mike Macdonald had previously stated that Smith was their quarterback of the future.

With Smith’s departure, the Seahawks may now be looking to bring in a veteran free-agent quarterback. Some potential options could include Sam Darnold or Kirk Cousins. Meanwhile, Las Vegas was in need of a quarterback after starting three different players last season.

The Raiders, who finished with a 4-13 record last season, have hired Carroll as their new head coach after parting ways with Antonio Pierce. They hold the sixth overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. Las Vegas also plans to release Gardner Minshew, who started nine games last season. The team is looking to improve and build towards a winning season under Carroll’s leadership.
