Missouri is on track to launch its sports gambling program by the middle of the year, according to the Missouri Gaming Commission. The Commission aims to issue licenses by the end of June, allowing all 13 brick-and-mortar casinos in the state to offer sports gambling in-person and online, including through mobile apps. The new law also creates sports-gambling districts around the home stadiums of Missouri’s professional sports teams.
The Missouri Gaming Commission is currently finalizing the rules and regulations for sports gambling, which have been sent to Governor Mike Kehoe’s office for review. While many Missourians are eager to place wagers from their homes, the application process is extensive and includes the possibility of two licenses unaffiliated with casinos.
Adjusting aspects of sports gambling in Missouri, such as the 10% tax rate or prohibitions on player prop bets involving in-state schools, will be challenging and would require another statewide vote. Despite the uncertainties, Missouri sports fans remain hopeful for the launch of sports gambling in the state. Players like Brandon Stanford and Kenneth Love expressed frustration with having to go to neighboring states to place bets and are looking forward to being able to do so in their home state.
