The Missouri State University Handball team achieved success at the 2025 USHA National Collegiate Handball Tournament, finishing as runner-up overall. The team, consisting of 19 players, displayed impressive depth and teamwork, with both the men’s and women’s teams delivering strong performances. Head coach Christian Madsen expressed pride in the team’s performance and highlighted the players’ dedication in representing the university and program.
The team’s success is a testament to the program’s rich history, which began in 1987 under the leadership of Dr. Tommy Burnett. Over the years, the team has earned numerous titles and accolades, solidifying its status as one of the most successful collegiate handball programs in the country. The program has produced multiple national champions, All-Americans, and has been recognized for its excellence by the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.
Despite the passing of Dr. Burnett in 2021, the legacy of the program lives on through the dedication of the players and the leadership of Coach Madsen. The team continues to thrive, with a strong foundation and commitment to excellence. The handball team’s achievements at the national tournament underscore their talent and determination, paving the way for continued success in the future.
