Missouri and Kansas will be observing Severe Weather Preparedness Week from March 3-7. The State Emergency Management Agency Director, Jim Remillard, emphasized the importance of being prepared for deadly storms, flooding, and tornadoes that can occur at any time of the year. The National Weather Service, SEMA, and local emergency managers will be partnering up to promote awareness and readiness for severe weather. The week will include a statewide tornado drill on March 5 at 11:00 a.m. Different aspects of severe weather preparedness will be highlighted each day, including receiving weather information, lightning safety, tornado safety, hail/wind safety, and flood safety. Residents are encouraged to take this opportunity to learn about the risks, create an emergency plan, and review safety steps to stay protected during severe weather events.
