Severe Weather Preparedness Week is being highlighted in Missouri from March 3 to March 7 to raise awareness about the dangers of severe weather. State Emergency Management Agency Director Jim Remillard emphasized the importance of being prepared for deadly storms, flooding, and tornadoes that can occur at any time of year. The week will include a statewide tornado drill on March 5 at 11 a.m. as well as daily safety messages from the NOAA on various topics such as lightning safety, tornado safety, hail/wind safety, and flood safety.
Residents are encouraged to follow local forecasts, have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, create a family emergency plan, and know the safest shelter locations in case of severe weather. It is important to take precautions, such as not driving into standing water, seeking shelter in an enclosed building or vehicle during high winds or hail, and avoiding isolated trees during lightning storms.
